General information
The Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Chamber of Commerce is offering an Events Management and Event
Marketing Internship to students. Students will either receive academic credit and/or a monthly stipend
for their work experience.
Minor intern opportunities are also available during spring term (January – May) or fall term (August –
December). The Excelsior – Lake Minnetonka Chamber serves the South Lake Minnetonka communities of
Deephaven, Excelsior, Greenwood, Shorewood, and Tonka Bay. Membership is open to all businesses,
organizations and community members in the Lake Minnetonka Area.
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Chamber of Commerce is to actively promote a prosperous business
climate, collaborate with community organizations, and engage with residents and visitors, thereby creating a positive
environment for the entire South Lake Minnetonka area.
Vision
The Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Chamber of Commerce strives to be the collective force influencing and shaping the
community in the Lake Minnetonka area. It seeks to be the leading advocate for businesses, residents, visitors and
community organizations; the acknowledged leader in developing and producing events that engage the community,
both locally and regionally; and valued by the community as a collective voice for information dissemination.

our partners.
2. To practice hospitality and welcome businesses, organizations and visitors to the Lake Minnetonka area.

Primary Objectives
Interns will work with the Chamber office staff, event committees and volunteers to:
● develop and implement Marketing and Promotional plans for special events;
● develop, promote, plan and implement programs, projects and events that support Chamber members and our surrounding communities, including:
o Excelsior Art on the Lake
o Lake Minnetonka 4 th of July
o Excelsior Apple Day
o Other events as they develop;
● assist the Membership & Marketing Director in the planning and implementation of member events, ambassador visits, and monthly meetings;
● assist the Excelsior Farmers’ Market coordinator with weekly market dates - set up, tear down, vendor set up and other needs as they arise;
Duties and Responsibilities
Interns will have the ability to take charge and anticipate project needs, establish work priorities, meet
deadlines with little supervision, and be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Interns should have a love for special event management, provide outstanding customer service, be an
enthusiastic professional, and be able to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Event Planning, Marketing and Production
Interns will:
● Work closely with Chamber Event Planner - execute duties as needed;
● Write online posts, press releases, newsletters, content for website, social media, email blasts and website
updates;
● Write post event analysis, Google, social media analytics, give reports to Chamber staff;
● Aggressively gather information on each project to achieve quality event productions;
● Propose new ideas to improve the event planning and implementation process;
● Serve as liaison with sponsors on set up, communication, promotional efforts, and other event-related matters;
● Work directly with event vendors – relations, communications and supervision;
● Provide periodic progress reports to Chamber staff and Board for each event project;
● Assist in preparing registration forms and systems;
● Be available to work all event dates and close out all events as required.
Qualifications
Interns will need to demonstrate:
● Openness to learning;
● Excellent communication skills, including writing, proofreading skills, and speaking;
● Strong knowledge of social media platforms and willingness to learn and study new social media platforms;
● Willingness to study analytic programs;
● Willingness to learn multiple web-based platforms: Hootsuite, Constant Contact, Eventbrite, Zapplication, and
more;
● Ability to think on your feet;
● Comfort in a working environment that is constantly changing;
● Ability to manage multiple projects and work assignments from a variety of staff, committee
members and volunteers;
● Excellent interpersonal skills both in person and by phone, with high professionalism;
● Ability to accomplish projects with little supervision, staff is here to clarify learning process and help;
● Promotional skills and public engagement utilizing social media platforms, email marketing tools,
website updates, sign up genius, interpersonal contact with local media, businesses, community
organizations, and residents;
● Superior customer service ethic and high expectations for quality;
● Enthusiasm and excitement for the process of event planning;
● Proficient use of the latest versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe
Competencies and/or Values
Interns will:

Typical Working Environment
Work is typically performed in an inside, temperature-controlled environment, also contains a considerable amount of
work outside in outdoor settings. Work locations can also be off-site, and some meetings and events will occur outside
of typical office hours. A business casual appearance is required. Typical Physical Requirements for This Position
There may be some lifting of materials and/or equipment, typically < 50 lbs. Interns must have reliable
transportation and a valid driver’s license, and a personal computer. It is recommended that you are comfortable
working in a small, dynamic, and close working environment.
